Position Overview:
The Road Operator (2) is responsible for performing road repairs, maintenance, and snow removal to ensure safe and efficient transportation routes. This role involves operating various equipment and tools to maintain infrastructure, including repairing guardrails, road surfaces, street signs, and storm drain systems. The operator will also be responsible for snow removal operations, including plowing, salting, and sanding roadways to enhance public safety.
Additional responsibilities include conducting routine inspections, identifying potential hazards, and responding to emergency road conditions such as flooding, fallen debris, or severe weather impacts. The operator must adhere to all safety regulations, maintain equipment in good working condition, and collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize tasks efficiently.Key Responsibilities:
1. Snow and Ice Removal:
- Perform snow and ice removal to maintain safe and accessible roads during winter months.
- Operate snowplows, salt spreaders, and other equipment to address rapidly changing road conditions.
- Adjust work schedules based on weather forecasts to ensure prompt response to snowfall events.
- Perform general road maintenance, including pothole patching, asphalt repair, and surface treatments.
- Install, repair, and replace street signs, guardrails, and other roadway infrastructure.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify road hazards and perform necessary repairs.
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of storm drainage systems, culverts, and ditches.
- Support utility-related tasks such as minor repairs and inspections.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient maintenance operations.
- Operate and maintain various types of heavy and light equipment, including loaders, backhoes, skid steers, excavators, and dump trucks.
- Perform basic vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Report any mechanical issues to the maintenance team for repair.
- Accurately document work activities, material usage, and equipment hours.
- Utilize job tracking tools or logbooks to maintain records of completed tasks.
- Follow work schedules and task assignments as directed by supervisors.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations regarding road and equipment operations.
- Participate in regular safety meetings and training sessions.
- Experience in road maintenance, construction, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to operate and maintain various types of equipment and tools.
- Knowledge of road repair techniques, snow removal procedures, and general labor tasks.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and respond to emergency call-ins.
- Basic mechanical skills and ability to perform routine equipment maintenance.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Previous experience in snow plowing, road repair, or construction.
- Familiarity with job tracking software or work order systems.
- Primarily outdoor work in all weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat.
- Physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Shift work, including nights, weekends, and on-call availability during winter months.
