Position: Summer Demo Technician
Reports To: Outfitters Manager & Assistant Manager
Position Summary:
The Outfitters Summer Demo Technician plays a key role in delivering an exceptional member and guest experience through professional equipment preparation, demo program operations, and outdoor equipment expertise. This position supports the Outfitters summer operation by maintaining and operating the demo fleet, assisting members and guests with equipment selection, and ensuring all demo equipment is prepared, maintained, and presented to a professional service standard. Successful candidates take pride in equipment quality, attention to detail, and maintaining gear that performs at the highest level. This role requires a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and a hospitality-driven mindset in a private club environment. The ideal candidate enjoys working with equipment, values craftsmanship in mechanical work, and is passionate about helping others enjoy outdoor recreation.
Core Responsibilities:
Demo Program Operations
• Assist members and guests with selection, fitting, and setup of demo equipment including bikes and outdoor gear.
• Provide clear orientation and operational guidance to ensure safe and enjoyable equipment use.
• Maintain organization and presentation of the demo fleet throughout the day.
• Prepare equipment for daily operations and ensure readiness for member use.
• Accurately track demo equipment through department systems.
• Maintain demo fleet storage, presentation, and organization standards.
Equipment Maintenance
• Perform routine and intermediate mechanical service on demo bikes and outdoor equipment to ensure safe and optimal performance.
• Conduct thorough pre- and post-use inspections including frames, suspension, brakes, drivetrain, tires, and controls.
• Perform mechanical adjustments including brake tuning, drivetrain indexing, cable adjustments, torque checks, tire service, and suspension setup within manufacturer specifications.
• Properly fit and adjust bikes for riders including saddle height, cockpit positioning, and suspension setup.
• Perform preventative maintenance including drivetrain cleaning, lubrication, bolt checks, and tire maintenance.
• Identify mechanical issues and determine appropriate repair solutions or escalate when necessary.
• Assist with component replacement, brake service, drivetrain work, and other intermediate repairs as directed.
• Maintain consistent awareness of demo fleet condition and assist in managing equipment rotation and maintenance cycles.
• Maintain professional shop standards including organized workspaces, proper tool care, and clean service areas.
• Ensure all equipment meets safety standards and manufacturer specifications before being issued for use.
• Maintain bike wash and service areas to ensure equipment is returned to members in exceptional condition.
Member & Guest Experience
• Deliver friendly, professional, and knowledgeable service in every interaction.
• Provide thoughtful equipment recommendations based on experience level, terrain, and activity.
• Maintain a welcoming and organized demo environment.
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail and pride in equipment preparation.

Retail & Department Support
• Assist members and guests with selection of outdoor equipment, accessories, and apparel through knowledgeable and service-driven interactions.
• Utilize product knowledge to recommend appropriate equipment and gear based on activity type, conditions, and member needs.
• Maintain high standards of merchandising, product presentation, and visual organization throughout the Outfitters department.
• Ensure retail areas, demo displays, and equipment presentation consistently reflect Outfitters standards.
• Support seasonal transitions, merchandising changes, and department resets.
• Maintain awareness of key product features, brands, and current equipment offerings.
• Assist with inventory organization, labeling, and storage of equipment and retail goods.
• Support daily operational needs across Outfitters including demo operations, equipment organization, and general department readiness.
Team Collaboration
• Maintain a positive and cooperative team environment.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, technicians, and department leadership.
• Participate in department meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications
• Passion for outdoor recreation including biking, hiking, and mountain activities.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience working on bicycles or outdoor equipment.
• Previous experience in a bike shop, outdoor retailer, or recreation operation preferred.
• A minimum of two to five years in a resort, club, hospitality, or outdoor recreation setting is preferred.
• High school diploma, GED equivalent or higher required (bachelor’s preferred)
• Ability to quickly learn new equipment, service standards, and technology.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and attention to detail.
Physical Demands
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to stand and move for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
• Frequent bending, lifting, carrying, and equipment handling.
• Ability to safely move and transport bikes and outdoor equipment.
